Hapusa Gin: Founders Story:

In the heart of Mumbai, where the bustling streets meet the sea breeze, Anand Virmani and Jay Dhawan embarked on a journey that would redefine Indian gin. Their shared passion for distillation led them to create Hapusa Gin, a tribute to the Himalayan juniper berries that dot India’s rugged landscape.

🌟 Jay Dhawan: A Rising Star

Tragically, Jay Dhawan passed away n 2021, but his legacy lives on in every sip of Hapusa. Jay began his career at Mumbai’s iconic Bombay Canteen, where flavors collided and creativity flowed. Soon after, he joined Nao Spirits, working alongside Dr. Anne Brock (yes, the master distiller behind Bombay Sapphire). Together, they crafted India’s first craft gins—Greater Than and Hapusa. Jay’s energy, curiosity, and determination left an indelible mark on the spirits world.

🌿 Hapusa Gin: A Botanical Symphony

Distilled in Nao Spirits’ copper pot still, Agatha, Hapusa Gin is a celebration of India’s botanical diversity. Juniper from the Himalayas mingles with coriander seeds, turmeric, cardamom, and gondhoraj limes. Each botanical tells a story—a whisper of spice, a hint of citrus, a memory of monsoons.

🌎 India’s Spirit, Global Aspirations

The founders envisioned Hapusa as more than a local gem. It’s a bridge between India’s ancient traditions and the global craft spirits movement. With Jay’s spirit guiding them, Anand and the team set out to conquer new horizons.

🎓 The Jay Dhawan Scholarship

In Jay’s memory, Nao Spirits established the Jay Dhawan Scholarship. Created in partnership with the Gin Guild, this scholarship offers one Indian student per year the chance to pursue an MSc in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University in Scotland. Imagine learning the alchemy of spirits production amidst rolling hills and ancient stills!
